Philosophy

A different perspective on conflict

Karen's route into mediation has been shaped by more than three decades of working with people, businesses and organisations. As an entrepreneur and senior operational leader, she has managed businesses, led teams, negotiated commercial relationships, worked with employees and stakeholders, and dealt directly with the realities of conflict in demanding environments.

Those experiences taught her that disputes are rarely only about what appears on the surface. Behind conflict are often competing needs, relationship challenges, communication breakdown, financial pressure, fear, misunderstanding, and very different perspectives of the same situation.

Background

Qualifications & experience

  • Accredited ADR Mediator, with specialised training in divorce and family mediation
  • More than 30 years of entrepreneurship, senior operational leadership, people management and stakeholder engagement
  • Practical exposure to workplace, labour, family and organisational conflict, alongside decades managing people and businesses in complex, high-pressure environments

Karen's approach to mediation

Four principles, held throughout every process

Impartiality

A mediator does not take sides. Karen's role would be to facilitate a fair and balanced process in which each party has an opportunity to participate meaningfully.

Confidentiality

Mediation provides a private environment for difficult conversations, subject to the terms and applicable limits agreed for the mediation process.

Dignity

Conflict can be difficult and deeply personal. Parties are treated with respect throughout the process, even where their positions differ substantially.

Practical Resolution

Mediation focuses not only on what has happened, but on whether the parties can identify a workable way forward.
